Well here we are in August,
just back or just off on our summer hols feeling
relaxed and chilled after a reasonably summery
July for the UK!
But what’s happening in
the fashion calendar? The big names in the world
of fashion are frantically working to put the
finishing touches to their latest collections,
ready for their catwalk shows throughout September
and October in the fashion capitals of the world
– New York, London, Milan and Paris. Whether
you’re a fan of Versace or Armani, Ralph
Lauren or Donna Karan, Jasper Conran or Julien
McDonald, or French classics such as Chanel and
Givenchy, take a cocktail trip with us around
Europe and fly over to New York to take in some
of “THE” cocktails all fashionistas
should be seen drinking!!
Off to New York first – |
|
|
Kicking off
with this Sex in the City classic - there
are various stories of how this cocktail
came to be – but it is widely attributed
to Dale de Groff aka New York’s “King
of Cocktails” for the recipe we recognise
today. A delicious blend of Stolichnaya
vodka and De
Kuyper Triple Sec topped up with
cranberry juice and lime juice. Scrummy! |
|
|
|
This gorgeous
concoction of Bourbon, rosso vermouth, a
good splosh of Angostura
Bitters and the juice of Maraschino
cherries is widely believed to have been
created at the Manhattan Club in New York
in 1874 for Lady Randolph Churchill (American
mother of Winston). |
|
And
for London Fashion Week (20-25 September 2003)...
how about trying one of these? |
|
|
Named after
the black leather cat suited sidekick played
by Dame Diana Rigg in the cult 60’s
programme the Avengers, this is a yummy mix
of De
Kuyper Cherry Brandy, champagne and pineapple
juice! |
|
|
|
This is a drink for lovers
of the Martini
who fancy trying a different spin on the traditional
recipe. A luscious fusion of vodka and Stolichnaya
Razberi vodka with Parfait Amour
to create a distinctive blue hue! |
|
|
|
|
|
Keep up with the pace of
rushing from one catwalk show to another by
having a caffeine hit with a difference –
this is a delicious blend of coffee with Disaronno
Originale and cream. Lush! Disaronno
Originale has a flavour which reminds
you of marzipan and Bakewell tart and is sweet
and fruity. It is the world’s most famous
Italian liqueur and is produced in Saronno,
north of Milan. Disaronno actually means “of”
or “from” Saronno. |
|
|
|
A scrumptious combination
of whisky and Disaronno
Originale– so easy to make with
just 2 ingredients served over ice. Fascinating
facts - did you know that if you substitute
vodka for the whisky the cocktail becomes
a “Godmother” or if you use cognac
instead of whisky it becomes a “Godchild”? |
|
Finally to the
place traditionally thought of as “THE”
fashion centre of the world – Paris... |
|
|
|
In keeping with the traditional
French theme, this classic concoction is deliciously
decadent taste which becomes sweeter as you
reach the bottom. A sugar cube coated in Angostura
and cognac gives a red tinge at the base of
the flute while the champagne bubbles fight
their way to the top. Enjoy!! |
|
|
|
Another classic French favourite!
The fruity taste of blackcurrants make for
an exquisite blend when topped up with champagne.
If you need to be more economical after battering
your plastic fantastic buying all those fab
new fashions, then substitute Cava or any
dry sparkling white wine instead of the champagne!!
Then again if you’re not a big fan of
the fizzy stuff – replace with a still
dry white wine (such as chardonnay) which
gives a Kir. |
