This month on the in-the-spirit, we didn’t take a lot of persuading to have a chocolate theme!! Much research has been done - oh its such a tough job!! – with the sole purpose of ensuring we can bring you the latest in chocolate inspired cocktails!!

But first - useless but fascinating facts for chocoholics …

• Did you know … the UK is second only to Switzerland in consumption of chocolate? Each person in the UK consumes an average of 13.7 kg per year!!
• Did you know … in the UK, we spent just under £4 billion on chocolate in the year 2000?
• Did you know … 47 Kit Kats are eaten per second in the UK?
• Did you know … nearly 16,000 Smarties are eaten every minute in the UK?
• Did you know … if a year’s production of After Eight was laid flat, it would cover an area equivalent to 328 football pitches?
• And finally … did you know … Cadbury’s produce an amazing 370 million Crème Eggs per year?

Milk chocolate is the preferred choice in the UK, while the Americans favour dark chocolate with the smoky flavours of cocoa beans from South America. Another important difference between the recipes for continental and UK chocolates is the kind of milk used. Continental manufacturers used dried milk powder – often mixed with whey powder while in the UK the very best milk chocolate is made with fresh milk.

choco 3 Rich, creamy and chocolatey, the Chocolate Chip Cookie is absolute heaven. Made with De Kuyper Crème de Cacao, white rum and vanilla ice cream. What a luxurious treat!!

Made with vodka and Stolichnaya Vanil blended with cream of coconut – have a sip of this and close your eyes and let your imagination take you to the paradise islands featured in the Bounty Bar TV ads!!

choco 7 If you’re a fan of nutty chocolate bars – you will love this!! Made with vodka, Frangelico hazelnut liqueur plus De Kuyper Crème de Cacao – this is a sublime drink with a nutty flavour.

choco 9 So what’s this one all about then? Do monkeys like chocolate? To be honest we’re not sure but we know they do love bananas!! So this cocktail recipe includes De Kuyper Crème de Bananes and De Kuyper Crème de Cacao as well as vanilla ice cream and chocolate powder. You’ll go bananas for it!!

image Made from vodka, Tia Maria and lemon juice. Ok – so we cheated a bit here as there’s nothing chocolatey about this one apart from its name – but trust us – it’s gorgeous to drink!

choco 12 You may have already tried our Springbok cocktail made with Amarula Cream and De Kuyper Crème de Menthe – which is like drinking liquid peppermint Aero! This is a slight variation to the original Springbok as we have added vanilla ice cream for an even creamier peppermint flavoured chocolate inspired concoction!!
