Here we go for some really fantastic chocolate flavoured cocktail recipes. These are inspired by one particular cocktail liqueur: De Kuyper Crème de Cacao. This fabulously versatile chocolate flavoured liqueur is available in 2 styles - one brown (sometimes referred to as "dark") and the other white (or "clear"). Made using carefully distilled spirits blended with the extracts of cacao beans from Africa, De Kuyper Crème de Cacao Brown also has hints of vanilla from Madagascar. The intensity of the chocolate flavour is further enhanced by the addition of caramel which completes the chocolatey taste and gives it such a rich dark colour.

The De Kuyper Crème de Cacao White style is made in the same way as the Brown style but without the addition of caramel so is the perfect addition to many cocktails where the Brown style would affect the colour of the finished drink.

Below we have selected some of our favourite cocktail recipes featuring De Kuyper Crème de Cacao (both styles) which we hope you will enjoy trying out.

Brandy Alexander

brandy

A sumptuous, rich, sweet and creamy cocktail. The richness and warmth comes from the flavour of the Three Barrels Brandy, the sweetness from the De Kuyper Crème de Cacao and then all shaken together with the cream. For this cocktail recipe, it's up to you whether you use the Dark or White style De Kuyper Crème de Cacao style depending on which colour you prefer for the finished drink. An absolute classic - especially for the fans of the TV adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited novel set in the decadence of the late 1920's where the outrageous and excessive character Anthony Blanche drank 4 of these cocktails one after the other exclaiming "Down the red lane they go . ".

Chocolate Full Moon

Still using De Kuyper Crème de Cacao and cream but with tequila as the main spirit ingredient. A different kind of more fiery spirit as one of the key ingredients mixed with cream and the Brown style of De Kuyper Crème de Cacao to achieve the deep chocolate tones in colour and flavour. Whilst the White style will give a similar finished taste, the finished cocktail might look more like a glass of cream!

Chocolate Princess

Again a change of base spirit, this time to Woods Dark Rum. Due to its deep syrupy flavour with hints of spice and dried fruits, Woods Dark Rum is perfect as a superb base spirit for this cocktail. The De Kuyper Crème de Cacao adds the chocolate tones with the De Kuyper Crème de Menthe Green giving the refreshing essence of mint and the hint of green. Using milk here instead of cream so as not overwhelm the other flavours in the cocktail. Here you can use the Brown or White style of De Kuyper Crème de Cacao. It really depends on how green you would like the finished drink to be.

Death by Chocolate

Ah but what a way to go! The ingredients for this sumptuous cocktail recipe begin with vodka, then De Kuyper Crème de Cacao Brown for the chocolate flavour and colour, add Amarula Cream for the rich and luxurious exotic flavour of marula fruit with hints of toffee and caramel. Blend of all these ingredients with 3 scoops of chocolate ice cream. If you serve it in a stylish hurricane glass which may make it look like an indulgent dessert - you can then decide whether to eat it or drink it!! Garnish with chocolate shavings for the perfect finishing touch. Ordinarily, we wouldn't recommend removing ingredients from our cocktail recipes but if you are working to a budget, it would be fine to miss out the vodka here as it gives the alcoholic strength rather than any particular contribution to the overall flavour of the cocktail.

White Nile Martini

An amazing cocktail recipe which tastes almost like a liquid version of a "Terrys Chocolate Orange" if you can imagine that! The chocolate flavours are provided by the De Kuyper Crème de Cacao Brown and the Amarula Cream with the essence of oranges coming from the De Kuyper Triple Sec. This recipe is amazingly simple to make by just shaking the ingredients together with ice and straining into a cocktail glass. You can serve as is but for that extra touch of panache, add chocolate powder to the rim of the glass and serve with a couple o maltesers on a cocktail stick with a twist of orange zest.

We do hope you enjoy trying out our latest selection of cocktail suggestions. However please remember to enjoy all recommended cocktails in moderation. Keep in-the-spirit!
